The Special Adviser on Public Health to the Executive Governor of Osun State, Dr Akindele Adekunle has stated the effort of Governor Ademola Adeleke in the health sector of the state is beyond the ongoing revamping of the primary healthcare centres in the state.

He asserted that the intervention is about total overhauling of the sector from the decrepit state it was met when the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke came onboard.

Dr Akindele made this known on his recent media appearance on the state broadcasting station (OSBC) flagship programme, “The Nation Today.”

He said, “Governor Adeleke’s Intervention in the Health sector is not limited to Primary Healthcare centre, it is a total overhauling of the healthcare system of the state but being carried out through a gradual process.”

Speaking further, he said “Before the govt embarked on rehabilitation and upgrades of the primary healthcare centres in Osun, it decided to embark on facilities inspection to those health facilities to ascertain the level of infrastructural deficit in those health centres. Despite the previous administration stating they carried out renovation in those health centres with $20.5m grant during their tenure, what we met that was done was superfluous, window dressing and cosmetic renovation carried out in those centres”

“This form the basis while we’re now embarking on the Governor’s mandate to rehabilitate and upgrades the health centres across board from their infrastructural deficit with 24hrs power supply, 24hrs water supply and equally adequate drugs provision,” Dr Akindele asserted.

When probe further on what’s the status of other health facilities in the state, the Special Adviser on Public Health quipped and said, “The same fate that has befallen the Primary Healthcare centres is what the secondary health institutions are also suffering from in the state. If the past administration in the state has been concentious and priorities the health sector as their cardinal agenda, we won’t be talking about this bad state our health institutions are in the state but rather gearing efforts to improve on whatever better fate we may have met those facilities or the health sector but generally speaking, there was nothing substantial in record that we could point at, to have been done by the previous administration that we can improve upon since we’re onboard now.”

“Let me also remind you that, Governor Ademola Adeleke has consistently stated he will complete or continue any projects beneficial to the people of the state started by previous administrations but unfortunately there is nothing of such efforts in the health sector that we met when we came onboard.”

The Special Adviser on Public Health to the Governor said, the secondary health facilities in the state have their peculiarities, suffering from both infrastructural and human resources deficiency, but providing solutions to those identified problems will be done gradually and it will be resolved by Governor Ademola Adeleke administration.

“For example, the UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital don’t have a have CT Scan. The last time the hospital had such important medical equipment was in 2012, and since then till now, nothing of such in the hospital, but the procurement process has started, and it will be gotten. Aside that, the Governor has procured three new state of the art ambulances for the hospital for medical support,” Dr Akindele emphasized.

Addressing the issues and concerns about development partners in the health sector of the state, Dr Akindele said, “The attitude of previous administration made some of our development partners in the health sector to leave and it should be noted that no government can single handedly fund health sector alone, the more reason why this development partners like W.H.O, U.N.D.P, Red Cross and the likes are needed for development partnership and why we’re currently engaging them in discussion for developmental progress beyond what is obtainable before.”

“In correcting the bad haphazard attitude of the past, Governor Adeleke has graciously approved a new befitting centre where all these development partners will be situated together in the state for onward progress and support for the health sector of the state in complementing the effort of the Governor in the health sector. By this singular act, the “World Rep of W.H.O” has decided to pay both working and courtesy visits to the state. This is a landmark for those who understand the importance of this in the health sector,” Dr Akindele affirms.

The Special Adviser to the Governor commend Governor Adeleke for bringing dividends of democracy to Osun State while assuring the people of the state that they will continue to benefit more of good governance from the people’s Governor while calling for their continuous support for the government.
