The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Osun State Chapter has commended the Executive Governor of Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, for his magnanimity in granting their members a tenure extension in office.

In a statement signed by the Chairman of the Association in Osun, Otunba Sarafadeen Abiodun Awotunde extends its heartfelt gratitude to the governor of Osun State His Excellency Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke and to the State House of Assembly for approving the extension of tenure and reappointment of the 69 Local Government and Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Caretaker Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, Scribes, and their members from February to August 2024.

On behalf of all the 69 chairmen, the ALGON Chairman, Alhaji Sarafadeen Awotunde (Spain), expresses profound gratitude to the Governor and all members of the State House of Assembly for their support and approval of the tenure extension. He emphasizes the significant impact this decision will have on enhancing governance and grassroots development in Osun State.

“The approval of the tenure extension for the LCDA Caretaker Committees is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the state government and the legislative arm in promoting effective governance. On behalf of ALGON Osun State, I extend our deepest appreciation to Governor Adeleke and the esteemed members of the House of Assembly. This gesture underscores their unwavering commitment to the welfare and progress of our local communities,” stated Hon. Awotunde.

He reassures the Governor and the House of Assembly of the Chairmen’s unwavering dedication to serving their respective local governments and LCDA. Hon. Awotunde pledges that the Chairmen will continue to work diligently to deliver on their mandate and fulfil the aspirations of the people.

PrimeReportersNG had reported earlier through a statement from the Chief Press Secretary of the Honourable Speaker of Osun State Assembly that the decision to extend the tenure of the LCDA Caretaker Committees follows a letter sent to the House by the State Governor, Sen. Dr. Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, and read on the floor of the House during Plenary by the Honourable Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun.

The Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Babajide Kofoworola Adewunmi, representing Ede North State Constituency, moved a motion to that effect, which was seconded by the Chief Whip, Hon. Adewale Akerele, from Ilesa West State Constituency. Hon. Babajide Adewunmi emphasized that the State Assembly has the constitutional power to approve the extension, in line with the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria as amended.

After careful deliberation and assessment of their performances, the members of the House adopted the motion and approved the request, thereby extending the tenure of the Caretaker Committees to August 2024.

The ALGON Osun State Chapter commends the collective efforts aimed at advancing grassroots development and pledges its continued support for initiatives aimed at improving the lives of the people of Osun State.
