The Chairman of Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC), Hashim Akintunde Abioye, Esq., has released the timetable and schedule of activities for the conduct of the Local Government elections in Osun State. According to the Chairman of the Commission, the election will be held on the 22nd of February, 2025.
In a Statement signed by the Press Secretary to the Commission Chairman, Omoyemi Badru, he said this is furtherance to the notice of election given by the Commission earlier in the week and a follow-up to the parley held by the Commission with IPAC and the media during the week.
“The notice of election and the timetable/schedule of activities for the elections will be formally published in the Nigerian Tribune edition of Monday 19th of February, 2024, as the conduct of primary elections by political parties (which is to be monitored by the Commission) will commence on the 22nd July – 6th August 2024”
“It is noteworthy that each registered political party is to indicate the dates, venues, and time scheduled for their primaries to the Commission not later than 21 days before the appointed dates.
“Final date for submission of list of candidates by parties, according to the timetable, is slated between 30th September, 2024 – 5th October, 2024, while the final date for the publication of names of already screened and qualified candidates is slated between 11th – 15th November 2024”, the statement reads.
The OSSIEC Chairman, Barrister Hashim Abioye during media parley with journalists to unveil the agenda and mechanism of the commission towards the forthcoming local government election promised that the forth-coming local government elections will be a giant leap forward in the history of local government elections in Osun State, as he has assured stakeholders of a credible, free, fair, peaceful and transparent election process.
The Chairman also reiterated that the guidelines and other regulations for the elections will also be issued in due course with most importantly, the activities/timetable of the election set to be officially published in the Nigerian Tribune edition of Monday 19th of February 2024.
