CBN Declines Sacked Osun Yes/No Chairmen Request, Demand for CTC of Reinstatement Order

0 0

The hope of the 2022 sacked chairmen of local government councils in Osun to start receiving their respective local councils allocations may have been dashed as its attempt to open council accounts and get the apex bank in Nigeria to lodge council funds with them may have failed.

In an official document seen by PRIMEREPORTERSNG from the CBN through its legal department and signed by Uzoamaka Onwuka for the legal department of the Apex Bank, it stated that the sacked henchmen did not attach the full Court of Appeal judgment which they claimed had reinstated them back as council chairmen.
It was confirmed that further push by the APC sacked chairmen across the council secretariats to freeze local government accounts in some commercial banks and open new ones was rebuffed by the banks who questioned on whose authority such operation are been carried out.

The CBN response read thus;

Re: Court Of Appeal Judgment Delivered On 10th February 2025; Prayers For Non-Release Of Federal Monthly Allocations To Local Government Councils In Osun

We acknowledge receipt of your letter with Reference No. ALGON/05/272, dated 26th February 2025, but received by the Bank on 14th March 2025.”

Your letter was written to the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, requesting for the recognition of the reinstated Local Government Chairmen and the release of Federal allocations to their respective councils.”

” Your request was based on the judgment of the Court of Appeal (COA)of 10th February 2025, discharging the decision of the Federal High Court (FHC) Osogbo. You stated that the COA Osogbo reinstated the earlier elected Council Chairmen as the duly elected local government officials of Osun State.”

Upon reviewing your letter, we observed that the judgment of the COA Akure Division referenced and being relied upon to make your request to the Bank was not enclosed. What was enclosed with your letter, was the order of the COA, allowing the appeal against the judgment of the FHC, but not the judgment of the COA that reinstated the LG Chairmen.”

We therefore kindly request that you avail swith the Certified True Copy (CTC) of the judgement of the appelate court dated February 10th, 2025 to enable us to review your request and respond appropriately.

Thank you. “ The CBN response concluded.

The sacked chairmen had clandestinely written to the apex bank requesting to open bank accounts to deposit Osun local government allocations to them.

They had cited an alleged Court of Appeal judgment which they claimed had reinstated them as a basis for the account opening requests, however in making their requests to the Apex Bank, they failed to include a copy of the Court order which allegedly reinstated them.

The CBN had thereafter responded to the letter, asking where the court order was and why it was not attached.

As at the time of filing this report, the sacked chairmen have since not responded to the CBN request.
